How to stop falling asleep while studying

The biggest question that arises while  studying for exam  is how to stop falling asleep while studying. Over the years, most of us have heard of top students boasting about their capacity to study long hours at a stretch or studying throughout the night with no sleep at all. But you should NEVER try to force yourself to stay awake all through the night before your exams as it is deep sleep or REM sleep that turns what you studied into long-term memory. So here are 5 simple hacks to stop falling asleep while studying.

• Active Study-

‍Studying for long hours can make you feel drowsy and tired. It can also lead to a loss of concentration and interest. To keep yourself awake, make your study sessions active. Read out loud,  teach the study material to your friends, and write down important points on cue cards, or make diagrams to revise what you learned, creatively. This will help you stay active and prevent you from feeling tired.

• Power naps-

Taking a power nap will make your mind relaxed ,  fresh and you will feel energetic. Potential  benefits of power naps include enhanced memory, improved cognitive performance, and stronger logical reasoning. Reduced fatigue. Increased alertness and attention. Improved performance and safety for students

• Study with friends-

If you study with your friends then study will get intresting and fun. Studying with friends bring on a positive social aspect. Enhances your personal/professional skills: Study groups can help you develop as a student too. Not only is social studying more motivating and stimulating, it can also offer new perspectives and interpretations of class materials. Ask someone to explain a confusing concept to you, or solidify your own understanding by teaching the material to a peer.

• Avoid caffeine

Studies show that consuming high amounts of caffeine (like those found in energy drinks) is associated with higher levels of stress, depression and anxiety. Consuming too much caffeine while studying may lead to insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, nausea, increased heart rate, and other side effects . So it’s always good enough to avoid caffeine.

– Get out of your comfort zone –

Getting out of your comfort zone and studying will help you to boost your productivity. Also there will be no laziness or anything that will distract you from studying. Goals are not achieved when you study for it in your comfort zone . Stay away from comfort zone will lead you to achieve your goals.

Staying alert and focused can be challenging when you need to study, especially at the end of a long day. But there are ways to boost your wakefulness and avoid drowsyness  in the middle of a study session.
